If you are a student of Class 10 or 12 (Academic Session 2025-26), here is the confirmed news that will change your exam strategy forever, as per the New Education Policy 2025.

1. Two Exams: Mandatory or Optional?

The biggest confusion among students was whether they must write both exams. The Education Ministry has clarified:

  • Exam 1 (Feb-March): This is the mandatory main board exam that everyone must attempt.
  • Exam 2 (May): This is completely optional.
The “Best of Two” Benefit:
If you score 75% in the first exam and feel you can do better, you can sit for the second exam in May. If you score 85% in the second one, your final marksheet will show 85%. If you score less, your previous 75% stays. It is a win-win situation with zero risk!

2. The End of “Science vs. Commerce”

In a historic move under the New Education Policy (NEP), the rigid walls between streams are broken.

  • Old Rule: A Science student could only study Physics, Chemistry, and Math.
  • New Rule: You can now create your own subject combination. Want to study Physics with History? Or Accountancy with Political Science? It is now possible.

3. PARAKH: The New Watchdog

A new national body called PARAKH is now active. Its job is to ensure that a student scoring 90% in the UP Board has the same value and knowledge level as a student scoring 90% in CBSE. This will bring equality during college admissions, a key element of the New Education Policy 2025.

4. Exam Pattern Changes (2026)

Say goodbye to rote learning (ratta-fication). The 2026 question papers will look different under the New Education Policy 2025:

  • 50% Competency Questions: Real-life case studies and logic-based queries.
  • More MCQs: Objective questions will carry higher weightage.
  • Fewer Long Answers: Writing 5-page answers is no longer the key to success. Concept clarity is king.
